  • This field contains the name of the mine where the specimen originated.


  • For better search results in your database, avoid a large variety of terms; draw up an authority list and add keywords as necessary.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the full name of the mine; do not use abbreviations.
  2. If the name of a mine exists in several languages, including English or French, enter the name in the language used to document your collections.
  3. Do not use your own translation.
  4. If the name of the mine where the specimen originated has changed, first enter its current name, followed by a comma and a space, and then the name that applied at the time the specimen was collected.

  5. N.B.: Do not enter the word "mine" after the name of the mine.

    Mine American Eagle
      and not 
     Mine American Eagle Mine
  6. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the name of the mine.
  7. When the name of the mine is unknown and no research has been done to identify it, leave this field blank.
  8. If, even after conducting research, you are unable to determine the name of the mine where the specimen originated, enter "unknown".
