Discipline (Identification)

  • This field contains the name of the discipline or science under which the specimen falls.


  • For better search results in your database, avoid a large variety of terms; draw up an authority list and add keywords as necessary. You can use the following authority list:1

    botany mineralogy
    conchology mycology
    crystallography non-vascular plants
    entomology ornithology
    gemmology osteology
    geology paleobotany
    herpetology paleontology
    ichthyology palynology
    invertebrate paleontology petrology
    invertebrate zoology vascular plants
    malacology vertebrate paleontology
    mammalogy zoology

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the name of the discipline under which the specimen falls.
  2. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space.
